President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Nigeria to participate in the fifth United Nations meeting on least developed countries (LDCs).

Garba Shehu, the president’s spokesman, said in a statement that Buhari will go for the conference in Doha, Qatar’s capital, on March 4, until March 9, 2023.

According to him, the trip is in response to an invitation from Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar.

During the summit, the president will reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to assisting the most vulnerable nations in addressing their development issues, climate crises, and poverty.

The statement reads, “The conference, which will be held from March 5th to 9th, 2023 under the theme ‘From Potential to Prosperity,’ is held once every decade and provides an opportunity to garner the support of the international community for accelerating sustainable development in the LDCs and to assist them in achieving prosperity.”

“In Doha, President Buhari will reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to assisting the most vulnerable nations in addressing their development issues, stressing the areas in which the Nigerian government has supplied them with various forms of aid over time.

“As the majority of these countries struggle to find sustainable solutions to the challenges of poverty, adverse effects of climate change, food and energy crises, and high-debt burdens, among others, the Nigerian leader will emphasize vehemently the importance of sustainable solutions for countries facing these severe challenges.

“World leaders, the private sector, civil society, and youth organizations will attend the summit. It aims to share development ideas and mobilize political will, solidarity, action, and solutions to transform the LDCs by finding sustainable solutions to the challenges of poverty, food insecurity, hunger, weak or non-existent infrastructure, inadequate health facilities, and climate change, among others, as they strive to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

The president will be accompanied by a number of ministers and high-ranking government officials, who are anticipated to sign a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding (MOU) with the Qatari government.

Buhari is anticipated to return to the country on March 8th.
