On Monday, former senator Dino Melaye and former governor of Imo State Emeka Ihedioha protested the presentation of election results at the national collation center in Abuja.

Melaye, a representative of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was dissatisfied with the manner in which state collation officials compiled the results of the presidential election.

Before the exercise could continue, he demanded that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) display uploaded results on screen. He said that the uploaded findings differ from what the collation officials presented.

“INEC failed to transmit election results. The INEC chairman avoided commenting when I and other party agents brought up the problem, he claimed.

Consequently, some party leaders have complained vehemently that INEC poll workers were unable to submit election results to the IReV.

Melaye stated that the only way to confirm that BVAS has not been circumvented is to view uploaded results.”

“We insist that the chairman of INEC displays uploaded results by state when the results are presented,” he said.

INEC Chairman Mahood Yakubu warned Dino Melaye not to be “disruptive” of the collation process as the PDP Chieftain insisted that the results declared by the State Collation Officers should have been put on IReV for transparency and accountability.

Dino Melaye, Emeka Ihedioha, and others staged a walkout from the national collation center in response.

In their absence, the collation process had thus resumed.
