Former national chair of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Adams Oshiomhole has been chosen to represent the senatorial district of Edo north in the national parliament.
Benjamin Adesina, returning officer for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), proclaimed Oshiomhole the winner on Sunday.
The APC leader received 107,110 votes to defeat the incumbent, Francis Alimikhena of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 55,345 votes.
“Adams Oshiomhole of the APC, having received the most votes, is proclaimed the winner of the election held on February 25 for the Edo north senatorial district,” Adesina said.
Prior to Alimikhena’s defection to PDP, the former APC national chair won the APC primaries for the Senate seat and defeated Alimikhena.
Oshiomhole entered the senatorial race in May 2022 after declaring his desire to run on the APC ticket for the 2023 presidential election.
During a celebration of his 70th birthday in Edo, he renounced his presidential ambitions and announced that he would seek to represent Edo north in the upper legislative chamber.
